Day 2: Leslie’s Take (A Bit Late!)

Our day began with a visit to the St. Louis cemetery where we witnessed many things from Marie Laveau and Homer Plessy’s tomb. I found this cemetery super interesting because it ranged from a majority of historical figures to celebrities like Nicolas Cage who poorly invested in a tomb there. From there we broke off into exploring the rest of New Orleans in the French Quarter. I enjoyed my first ever po-boy at The Grill NOLA at then headed to Cafe du Monde and tried my first ever beignet.

The evening was perhaps my favorite part of the day. We headed into a restaurant and I got to try alligator  for the first time which as Justin put it “is what chicken should taste like”. As we continued, we headed to Frenchmen Street where we heard people play jazz. The group all had an exceptional time dancing and watching others around us join. It was a great way to end our day and my favorite part of the trip so far.

The most interesting part was actually hearing people shout “who dat?!”. After not believing Kyle who told us it was a very popular phrase, I can finally say I was proved wrong.

I can’t wait to start our actually service though and see what the rest of the week holds!
